Data centers that power AI are driving a surge in electricity demand that hasn’t been seen in decades. Without the right rules in place, this new demand will raise power bills, increase the risk of blackouts, and create more air pollution.
PJM, the power grid operator for the Mid-Atlantic and parts of the Midwest, will soon make a consequential decision about how data centers draw power from the electricity grid. Alarmingly, PJM’s current proposal could force residents to pay around $70 more each month for their electricity.
We need a solution that ensures new data centers connecting to the grid pay their fair share. Tell PJM we need to require data centers to bring their own new power supply and not allow them to cut to the front of the line of clean energy projects waiting to connect to the grid.

Our electric bills are soaring at an alarming rate. Residents, families, and small businesses should not be forced to pay the price for new data centers run by some of the richest companies in the world. PJM must make the right decision to protect residents from high energy bills and increased risk of blackouts: require data centers to bring their own new power supply or risk getting turned off, and ensure that their power can't cut to the front of the line to connect to the grid.
